Speech & Debate Team

The VHTPA Speech & Debate Team is open to all students, regardless of grade level or previous experience. As a proud member of the Los Angeles Metropolitan Debate League (LAMDL), our team competes in rigorous academic tournaments centered around policy debate, a challenging and intellectually rewarding format that builds essential skills in critical thinking, public speaking, research, collaboration, and civic engagement.

Through participation in tournaments across the city, students explore complex social, political, and economic issues, learning to construct persuasive arguments and respond to counterclaims in a fast-paced, competitive environment. Topics are grounded in real-world policy and require students to develop evidence-based positions, preparing them for college-level discourse and beyond.

In past years, VHTPA debaters have taken part in numerous policy debate tournaments, gaining recognition for their dedication, growth, and analytical ability.
