Principal's Message

Hello Monarch Family,
It is an honor and privilege to continue serving as your Principal at Dr. Richard A. Vladovic Harbor Teacher Preparation Academy. As I begin my 24th year with LAUSD, I reflect with gratitude on the journey that has brought me here—from teaching math and science at Dodson Middle School, to serving as their Magnet Coordinator, and later as Assistant Principal at Narbonne High School. I’ve spent my entire life in the South Bay, where my husband and I are now raising our five children. These experiences have shaped my leadership and deepened my commitment to supporting students, staff, and families.
As VHTPA enters its 23rd year, I remain inspired by the legacy of excellence and the strong sense of community that defines our school. Our continued success is the result of the collaboration, dedication, and shared vision of our students, families, faculty, staff, and community partners. I am committed to nurturing the whole student academically, emotionally, and socially as they discover their strengths and reach for their goals.
My vision for VHTPA is to empower our students to become thoughtful communicators, critical thinkers, and compassionate leaders. Through high expectations, a growth mindset, and meaningful partnerships, I believe we will continue to grow as one of the top schools in the nation.
Please know that my door is always open. I look forward to building lasting relationships and continuing our shared work in creating a vibrant, inclusive, and high-achieving learning environment for every Monarch.
Warmly,
Desiree Douglas-Montoya
