Principal's Message

Hello Monarch Family! I am honored to announce that I will be continuing on as your principal of Dr. Richard A. Vladovic Harbor Teacher Preparation Academy. This is the start of my 22nd year with LAUSD where I have spent the majority of those years as a math and science teacher at Dodson Middle School. I later served as Dodson’s Magnet Coordinator before becoming an Assistant Principal for Narbonne High School. I have lived in the south bay my entire life and it is where my husband and I now raise our five children. I have been fortunate to wear many hats over the years which has allowed me to acquire the skills to meet the different needs of our students, teachers, parents, and community members.

As Vladovic Harbor Teacher Preparation Academy enters its 20th year, I am excited to honor the traditions and excellence that has been established. It is through the collaboration of all stakeholders that VHTPA has been able to reach the level of educational excellence it represents today. My goal is to support our students academically, emotionally, and physically as they continue to become their best selves. I sincerely believe that with the support of our faculty, staff, parents, and community members our Monarch students will continue to succeed in all that they put their minds to.

My vision for VHTPA is to provide our students with the strategies to become effective communicators that think critically, contribute to their communities and become collaborative leaders. It is with high expectations, a growth mindset, collaboration of all stakeholders, and support of our students and staff that we will make this vision into a reality. Please know that my door is always open. I look forward to the relationships we will build as we continue to make VHTPA one of the top schools in the Nation.

Yours truly,
Desiree Douglas-Montoya
