The Teaching Project

SERVICE LEARNING

Each year ninth and tenth grade students at Dr. Richard A. Vladovic Harbor Teacher Preparation Academy complete their service learning requirement by completing the Teaching Project.

Students collaborate in their AVID classes to create science-based, technology-centered lessons for third and fourth grade students. This project enhances student learning by allowing students the opportunity to practice the teaching profession and demonstrate the mastery of elementary science standards.

In 2016, the Teaching Project was awarded a $75,000 grant from the State Farm Youth Advisory Board in recognition of closing the achievement gap in elementary and secondary schools. For the past three years, this grant has allowed us to seamlessly integrate technology into the lessons our students create, as well as provided the funds needed to purchase buses for our many visits.

The Teaching Project is a testament to VHTPA's commitment to interacting and engaging with our surrounding community.
