Applications for VHTPA 2025-2026

Important Requirement:
All accepted applicants must attend Summer Bridge, a two-week program tentatively scheduled for July 14, 2025 – July 25, 2025.

About VHTPA’s Academic Calendar

VHTPA does not follow the LAUSD calendar. Instead, it aligns its academic calendar with Los Angeles Harbor College (LAHC).

How to Apply

The LAUSD Unified Enrollment application window is open from October 1, 2024 – November 15, 2024.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements across three evaluation categories:

  1. Interview Score: Candidates must achieve a minimum score of 14 out of 20 in the interview section.
  2. Essay Score: Candidates must receive a score of 3 or higher on the essay.
  3. SAS Verification Criteria (verified by current school of attendance): Candidates must fulfill at least one of the following conditions:
    • Gifted Identification: Candidate is identified as Gifted in one or more of the following areas:
      • Intellectual Ability
      • High Achievement
      • Specific Academic Ability
      • Creative Ability
      • Leadership Ability
    • Academic Performance: Candidate demonstrates academic excellence through one of these measures:
      • Achieved "Standards Exceeded" in both English Language Arts and Math on the Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) for the 2023-2024 school year.
      • Scored in the 85th percentile or above nationally on a District-approved standardized achievement test.
    • Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving Skills: Candidate meets all four criteria for critical thinking and problem-solving and shows the ability or potential to work at a level two years above their current grade.
 

Important Dates

  • Application Deadline (Unified Enrollment): November 15, 2024
  • VHTPA Paper Application Submission Deadline: January 10, 2025
  • Eligibility Notification: February 2025
  • Acceptance Notification: March 2025

Students who apply by the November 15, 2024 deadline will receive their admission status through LAUSD Unified Enrollment by March 2025.
Note: To apply, students must reside within the Los Angeles Unified School District boundaries.
